Our Homeschool Routine for Term 3!
Hey Everyone!
Last term we were studying the human body and some of the systems so we read a book about Florence Nightingale. I also want to introduce some Shakespeare without overwhelming her, so we found a book that has the plays in story format. At this point we have read A Midsummer Night's Dream, The Tempest and The Taming of the Shrew.
The geography reading is a book called Helping Your Kids With Geography and she just reads one page spread a few times a week after which we have a quick discussion about what she has read so that I know she understood everything.
Miss B is also learning Spanish and this term is starting lessons with a friend of ours who is fluent in Spanish. So here is when she will do her little tasks he sets out for her to practice during the week. Up until now, she has just used DuoLingo for these lessons. So that is our Morning Basket time.
After a half an hour break, we jump into our Maths and English block. This is only an hour long, but she is able to get both subjects done in this time frame. We do IXL for Maths and she only does one lesson at a time. So for instance, the topic for Unit J is Exponents and Square Roots, so she will start with lesson J.1 and move through the course that way.
English is the Excel Book Smart Study Englsih 9. We do one or two pages a day and at the end of each unit, she has to write her own sample of whatever type of text she learnt about in that unit. If there is still time in the block, she will get the IPad out and open up the Twinkl Originals app and read whatever book she has on there that I have set. Some of those books also have comprehension questions and activities related to what they are reading. Anytime there are little activities on an app like that, Miss B is very happy.
After another half an hour break, we do some of the other subjects she has. These subjects are History (Story of the World Volume 2 - The Middle Ages), Science (Oxford Science 9), Life Skills (Gather Round Homeschool) and money management (Barefoot Kids).
History is only done twice a week so Monday and Wednesday. We go through a chapter each lesson and she does a small narration paragraph of what we read, the map work included and sometimes the colouring pages and activities. Tuesday and Thursday we have Science and we just go through a lesson and she does the activity questions we print out from Obook Pro - Oxfords online learning platform. Friday is a lighter day so we do the Barefoot Kids book only on Fridays. We only do one lesson of Life Skills a week and there are 5 pages in the student book so we just do one page a day. These tend to not really take that long which works well for her.
Block 4 is after the last half hour break and this is for more Independant Reading (of her choice), a DK Educational Activity book, jigsaw puzzles or games from our Homeschool shelf.
And that is the end of our homeschool day and also the time I need to leave to start the school pick ups!
I just made up the schedule on Canva using a template and it is now proudly on the side of the homeschool shelf!
Now to see how we both go sticking to the schedule!
Thanks for reading!
