Curriculum Choices for 2025 - Grade 10!

Hey Everyone,

This year is already flying by with Easter now in the rearview mirror!

We had an insane start to the year with family staying with us, homeschooling, my son starting Grade 11 at school and my daughter who has a disabililty starting her school leavers program. It is starting to settle down now with everyone in their routines, though we have added two nights of gymnastics to Miss B's schedule starting in Term 2.

We have adjusted expectations and curriculum from last year as Miss B is able to do more sports and following her interests more.

We were going through the IXL curriculum for maths as it was helpful last year, however this year, she decided that she needed more express instruction in the lessons. Which is where Maths Online comes in. The lessons include video instruction, a sheet of example questions they go through in the video, a worksheet and an answer sheet. They also have the option for answering questions all online, however this format did not work well for Miss B. Printing out the example sheet, worksheet and the answer sheet (for me to make sure she is on the right track) works well. She then types in the corresponding letter attached to the answer for the percentage grade.

English this year we are using The Good and The Beautiful Level 7. We have found this a comprehensive program that also includes Geography and Art as part of the curriculum.

Science is where we are following her interests so we are doing Intro To Forensic Science by Masterbooks. It is an American program but the general gist of the lessons are universal. This is designed for Year 11 and 12 but she is doing pretty well with it. We also watch shows like Forensic Files so that she can see the processes she is learning about in the course.

History is something that we have been struggling with. We were doing Volume 2 of Story of the World, but she was finding that boring as she got older. We switched it up to learning about the Tudor times with documentaries and worksheets from Twinkl. But Term 2 for us is going to be all about World War 2. Reading The Diary of Ann Frank, watching documentaries and visiting the local armour and artillary museum as well as some good old fashioned research is on the cards.

As Miss B is starting gymnastics again, we are also starting to have more discussions about nutritian and how eating certain foods affect how well you can exercise. Miss B tends to learn more with hands on stuff and because nutritian and exercise is on her mind at the moment, this is the time to develop her knowledge of the topic. Using cookbooks and making foods also help with her independence and confidence in the kitchen.

Physical Education is also a big thing this term as she is starting 2 lessons per week at Gymnastics as well as continuing with her swimming lessons. Her and her brother have also made a promise to each other to go for a long walk with each other every week. We are also aiming to start a TAFE course next year that may or may not be a Cert 3 in Fitness. This is what my son is doing at school and it has been extremely helpful with his chosen sport.

So that's it! Our curriculum choice for this year!

Happy Homeschooling!
